NET Framework (pronounced as "dot net") is a software framework developed by Microsoft that runs primarily on Microsoft Windows. It includes a large class library named as Framework Class Library (FCL) and provides language interoperability (each language can use code written in other languages) across several programming languages. Programs written for .NET Framework execute in a software environment (in contrast to a hardware environment) named the Common Language Runtime (CLR). The CLR is an application virtual machine that provides services such as security, memory management, and exception handling. As such, computer code written using .NET Framework is called "managed code". FCL and CLR together constitute the .NET Framework. System Requirements

- Windows Installer 3.0 is required. Windows Installer 3.1 or later is recommended.
- IE 5.01 or later: You must also be running Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 or later for all installations of the .NET Framework.

It contains both the 64-bit and 32-bit runtime in one convenient setup. For 32-bit operating systems, please click the related resource link for the 32-bit framework download page.
- Disk Space Requirements: 280 MB (x86), 610 MB (x64)
Server Installation Requirements
Note: If you have installed previous pre-release versions of .NET Framework v2.0, such as Beta 1, Beta 2 or Community Technical Preview (CTP) builds, then you must uninstall these versions via Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel before installing this final release version.
Most users will perform a typical installation and can ignore these requirements. If you are unsure which type of installation to perform, meet only the typical installation requirements.
